Notice of Planned Outage - Tuesday 29 November 2022
SportsDataIO services will be unavailable during the window of 4am to 10am Eastern on 29 November 2022
On Tuesday 29 November 2022 we plan to roll out upgrades that will necessitate a brief period of downtime. This will take place during the window of 4am to 10am Eastern Standard Time. We do not anticipate being down for this entire window. We will communicate when we are back online. During this time please plan for all SportsDataIO services to be unavailable. These include, but are not limited to:
- SportsDataIO APIs
- Widgets
- Website
This downtime is necessary to provide the following:
Hardware Upgrades
We are in the final steps of rolling out a significant hardware upgrade for the hosting of our database and web/API services. This special maintenance takes place on Tuesday 29 November between 4:00am and 10:00am Eastern Time. During this window, services may be unavailable, but will come back online stronger at 10am or before.
This rollout also includes additional redundancies for multiple nodes in our production environment, both database and web. This investment in hardware will reduce potential points of failure, ensuring higher availability for years to come.
In simple terms, our two new web servers and their load balancer are far more powerful than our current hardware. Our new database upgrade boosts our processing power by ~150%, ensuring better performance and higher uptime.
Software Fixes
Over the past few weeks we have also optimized much of our code to prevent specific failure cases from taking place again. These recent upgrades include: automation bug fixes, better detection and mitigation of excessive API usage, and CDN-level optimization.
We will continue to carry out more upgrades as our products grow, but we have identified the sources of previous outages and mitigated each one of them.
Thank You
In closing, we would like to thank you for your continued custom and your patience with this planned outage. Rest assured that uptime and availability are and will continue to be our top priorities, and although the upgrades above are going to make a huge difference, we will continue to optimize and upgrade as we continue to grow, ensuring you receive the best possible service.
