SportsDataIO Help Center Data Rights and Licensing
Can I store SportsDataIO data in my own database?
Yes. Commercial licenses permit ingesting, caching, and storing API responses on your own infrastructure for the operation of your licensed product. There are no forced refresh intervals or caching restrictions for ingested data.
Can I build models and analytics from the data?
Yes, pending the use case and the exact feeds required. We can provide commercial licenses that permit using the data as an input to statistical models, machine-learning systems, projections, ratings, and other derived analytics. License agreements can also cover display of those derived outputs in your licensed product, including both internally or to external users. Please check with us to ensure your use case and feeds are covered.
Can I display raw SportsDataIO data to my users?
Yes, within your license scope. Displaying scores, schedules, statistics, injuries, and similar data inside your licensed product is a standard licensed use. Redistributing or reselling the feed itself as a standalone data product is not permitted.
Can I use the data for a betting-related product?
Yes. This is a common use case that we can support, Licenses cover betting analytics, modeling, and decision-support products, as well as sportsbook and operator use cases. Your license will be scoped to the specific use case(s) that you require.
What happens to my data if my subscription ends?
It is possible to retain data after your license expires. Post-termination rights to previously delivered data (raw or derived) are set in your individual license agreement. Many clients who have a use for post-license data retention will negotiate terms that allow them to retain data after termination.
Do I have to credit SportsDataIO?
Yes. Attribution is a standard requirement of commercial licenses. The placement, wording, and format are set in each agreement.
Do I need to be a registered company?
No. Commercial licenses are available to businesses and to individuals operating commercially. Commercial terms, including minimum license fees, apply regardless of corporate structure.
Personal, non-commercial projects do not need a commercial license; see the Discovery Lab product for more information.
I have a personal or early-stage project. Where do I start?
Discovery Lab (discoverylab.sportsdata.io) is SportsDataIO's personal-use platform. It provides free access to last season's data with no credit card, and paid personal-use packages (Fantasy, Odds, or both) across NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, NCAA Football, NCAA Basketball, Golf, and NASCAR. It is a lighter product than the commercial APIs and draws on the same underlying data. Discovery Lab is licensed for personal, non-commercial use only; public-facing, revenue-generating, or business-operated products require a commercial license.
What does a commercial license cost?
Licenses are quoted per client based on leagues and competitions required, feeds require, and the use case for those feeds. API usage volume is not a factor in pricing.
The fastest way to get a quote is the requirements form, found here. You will receive a same business day response to clarify your requirements, if needed, and our Sales team will then be able to offer a quote.
