Teams, Players & Rosters
College Basketball Teams, Players, and Rosters are updated year-round, including throughout the duration of the off-season. Team official sites will publish their updated rosters for each upcoming season to include incoming Freshman, as well as any transfer players that are added to the roster.
While our rosters and player profiles are managed throughout the offseason, they are not considered finalized for the upcoming season until the official team rosters are published on school websites. Then, our records are checked and updated to ensure accuracy for the upcoming season.
- Player Profiles include data fields such as name, position, class (senior, redshirt freshman, etc), number, height/weight, high school, and home town.
- Player rosters are updated when players move to teams and are updated typically within hours of moves becoming official.
- Team profiles include data fields such as name, conference, and home stadium.
- SportsDataIO has team abbreviations for schools which match the broadcast.
- The ShortDisplayName field can be used for school abbreviations as opposed to the abbreviation provided for the Key field. Many of the Key and ShortDisplayName abbreviations are the same, but there are slight differences
- All CBB GlobalPlayerID's start with 600.
- SportsDataIO only provides coverage for players from Division I basketball schools. Even if a Division I is playing a Division II or III school, only the Division I school will have player info and stats.
Transfer Portal
The College Basketball transfer window takes place each year beginning sometime at the end of March (after the 2nd Round of the NCAA Tournament) and spans 30 days long. Player profiles and rosters are actively managed throughout the duration of the transfer window. In the event that a player enters their name in the transfer portal and their current team has any scheduled game(s) left on their post-season schedule, the team’s official roster is monitored to determine the status of the player.

Venues & Officials
Venues:
CBB Venue feeds include all active venues that are currently available to host games each CBB season.
- While CBB venues remain relatively static, when a neutral site is scheduled to host a game, SportsDataIO creates a new profile for each new venue and adds it to the CBB venues feed.
- Throughout the season, there are a number of College Basketball games hosted at neutral venues. Use the
NeutralVenuefield to determine if a game is being played at a neutral venue. - If a team is playing in an NBA or NFL arena, the

Event Feeds
Schedules & Gameday Info
Regular Season Schedule
College basketball schedules are typically announced on a per-team or per-conference basis throughout the summer months and will vary year-to-year. Once the schedule is officially announced, we match and update our records.
Occasionally, neutral-site regular season games may have home and away teams listed inconsistently across various sources. SportsDataIO attempts to align with industry standards, but to maintain data stability and avoid deleting previously created games, we do not guarantee complete alignment with all external sources. In situations where a GameID must be removed and re-created, SportsDataIO will proactively notify clients of the change.
- The current and upcoming schedule is updated continuously at intervals each day to ensure the latest changes are taken into account.
March Madness and Selection Sunday
Our NCAA March Madness brackets are pre-created 21 days prior to Selection Sunday with Game ID’s. Prior to the team assignments, the GameID will have teams listed as TBD.
On Selection Sunday, our Data Operations team sets the seeds for teams in real time as they are announced on the live broadcast. The Women’s College Basketball brackets are not updated live and will appear following the announcement of the entire bracket seeding.
- The home/away teams will not be assigned based on seed in the Men's College Basketball Tournament. Instead, we will assign teams to away/home based on their previous game in the bracket. This allows us to move much faster in the creation of new games and odds, because we will no longer need to wait for both games to end before slotting them into the next round of the tournament.
- For the Men's College Basketball Tournament in March, all schedule, seeding, and game day info can be found in our Tournament Hierarchy endpoint. Day and time of games are in the Eastern Time Zone
In addition to the Men's College Basketball Tournament in March, SportsDataIO has full coverage for the National Invitation Tournament (NIT), College Basketball Invitational (CBI), and College Basketball Crown Tournament. These tournaments will not be given a TournamentID, but you can find them with the POST season type parameter in the Schedules endpoint.
Scores & Game State
Scores and Game State are updated live during all games, along with the final score being provided after the game is completed and verified.
- Score includes the score for each half the final score for both teams.

Live & Final (With Game State)

- When a Division I school plays a Division II or Division III school, we will show who the Division II or Division III school is and the score of the Division II or Division III school, but we will not collect any player or teams stats for them in the game.

Injuries
SportsDataIO monitors and provides updates to injuries for all NCAA Division I teams. Injuries are managed during the regular season and postseason. During the offseason, only players dealing with serious injuries, who are guaranteed to miss any upcoming regular season game(s), will be managed.
- Official injury wires for each NCAA Division I team, as well as trusted media sources, are monitored to determine the latest injury status of each player. While official sources are always preferred, credible media reports are also used to ensure we are up to date.
Conference Injury Reports
Currently, the BIG10 and SEC conferences are the only that require their teams to release an official injury report prior to every game.
BIG10

- Our records are matched to reflect player status and reviewed periodically leading up to games to ensure that injuries are accurate and up to date.

- Our records are matched to reflect player status and reviewed periodically leading up to games to ensure that injuries are accurate and up to date.
Key fields that should be consulted:
-
InjuryStatus: A player's game status (Probable, Questionable, Doubtful, or Out) -
InjuryBodyPart: The body part affected -
InjuryStartDate: The date at which the player's injury was first verified -
InjuryNotes: A written description of the player's injury, e.g.: "Allen is dealing with a knee injury and will not take the court for the Blue Devils."
